Issue:

During 07-07 migration you receives the following errors:

FatalError: Item does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user.

When you open “Import.log” file following error occurs before the error:

Error: Unable to update the information in the Microsoft Office document  “***.xls”

How to fix:

When the “Unable to update the information in the Microsoft Office document Implementation “***.xls”” error occurs for a document without versions, only the document is not migrated.

To be able to migrate the document in document library without versioning:

  • open the file in the corresponding MS Office application and save it back.

To check if it helps:

  • open the document properties for editing in SharePoint
  • try to save them. If you can successfully do that, the migration completes successfully. If you see the same error message in SharePoint UI try to use different version of MS Office application.

If the document has versions the FatalError occurs during version applying and import of the document library completes, so other documents are not migrated.

If you don’t need the document versions:

  • repeat steps from the previous case
  • delete all versions of the document.

But if you are not allowed to do any changes with source document there is a way to allow migration of other documents in document library but manual changes are required. To do this, contact Quest support or MM dev team.

Please note:

In any cases there is no way to migrate the document with all versions as the document itself has broken metadata. This can occur if the document was created or edited with non MS application.

The same error might occur during 03-07 migration. Refer the following article for more detailes
