Notes documents can be formatted as generic Word documents or documents based on custom Word templates. • Using the new Link Tracking Service Finalizer/Updater

As described in yesterday's post [ link ], the Link Tracking Service allows Notes DocLinks to be migrated as "Dynamic Links" instead of Direct Links. As users click on Dynamic Links they are automatically redirected to the current location of the target document, whether or not it has been migrated yet and regardless of whether the linked-from or link-to document was migrated first. When we describe this feature to customers, two important questions often come up: What happens if I move my content, change the external host name of my SharePoint farm, etc? Will the Link Tracking Service still send users to the right place? What happens when I am done migrating? The Link Tracking Service is cool, but am I stuck with it forever? Notes Migrator for SharePoint version 5.2 [ link ]...
  • Thirteen ways to migrate a document to SharePoint

Wow! With two new options being introduced by Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2, we now have 13 distinct choices for migrating a Notes document. This gives us a fun way to convey one of the dimensions of our tool's value (the unparalleled breadth of target options) in screen shots. Rich text document in Notes (the "before" version") 1. Migrate to Standard Lists (Discussion, etc.) 2. Migrate to Custom Lists 3. Migrate to Content Types (also note the support of SharePoint's out-of-the-box approval process and version history) 4. Generate Web Part pages (set any web part property from your Notes data) 10. Generate MOSS Publishing Pages...
  • What new in Usage Analysis?

Many organizations now use the Notes Migrator for SharePoint Discovery Edition for analysis of Notes application environment analysis, particularly in a pre-migration scenario. Based on some recent customer/partner feedback we have improved the usage analysis portion of the tool. The following changes will be in Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2 Beta 3 [ link ]. 1. New properties have been added to the Usage Analysis data that NMSP gathers: · Last Usage Analysis – Date you performed the scan · Recording Activity – “Y” if user activity tracking is enabled in the database. (Warning, this is not detected during discovery but rather during usage analysis. Therefore if you do not see a “Y”, you need to look at the Last Usage Analysis date to see if the data has been gathered.) · Last Used All Replicas...
  • Generating Microsoft Word Documents

This article details the new feature previewed in an earlier post [ link ] for migrating Notes documents to Microsoft Word documents and checking them into a SharePoint library. This feature will become part of Notes Migrator for SharePoint version 5.2 [link] . Feature Overview This feature allows you to generate Microsoft Word 2007 (OpenXML) documents from Lotus Notes documents. Microsoft Word is a very flexible and powerful environment and NMSP supports a wide range of migration scenarios: 1. Migrate Notes rich text to new (blank) Word document – In this scenario the user wants to map the rich text portion of their Notes documents (typically the “Body” field) to Word 2007 documents (DOCX files) created from scratch. The generated rich text content is pretty much the only thing in the resulting...
  • Mapping Notes Groups to SharePoint Groups

Notes Migrator for SharePoint has always had a number of capabilities for migrating the security of your Notes applications to the equivalent security constructs in SharePoint. In particular we have had two distinct "group mapping" options: Map Domino Directory Groups in your application's ACL to Domain Groups (usually AD groups) Generate SharePoint Groups (with members) from Roles in your application's ACL In both of the above cases, the tool sets the permissions correctly for the site, list, or document you are provisioning. With Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2, we now support a third option: Generate SharePoint Groups (with members) from Domino Directory Groups in your application's ACL In other words, as indicated in the dotted line below, we are now crossing the...
  • Converting Notes forms to InfoPath form templates

The Notes Migrator for SharePoint product team is finally getting into the business of migrating Notes application designs. For the first three years of the product's life, we have focused on awesome content migration, schema migration, security migration, application analysis, site/list provisioning, automation and project management. In other words, we have done everything but design migration. Well that's about to change! In Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2 we will deliver that first of many planned design migration features: converting Notes forms to InfoPath form templates. As discussed previously, our product is already great at migrating Notes data documents to InfoPath XML data documents, but developers still had to design their InfoPath form templates from scratch. Now we...
  • Sneak Preview: Generating Microsoft Word documents from Notes documents

Well, it's that time again. Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2 is just around the corner and it is time to start talking about the new features. One of our most exciting new features is the ability to generate Microsoft Office Word 2007 (DOCX) documents from Word documents. Beta 1, due in about a week, focuses on generation of very high-fidelity rich text documents. You can generate new Word documents from scratch or start with the Word template of your choice. All this gets checked into a SharePoint document library, of course, along with whatever permissions, meta and custom fields you deem appropriate. Beta 2 will complete the picture with setting of Word document properties (including custom properties and content control values). This will be especially cool for people who like to use...
