  • Visit me at the SharePoint Conference

At the airport now. Starting with this evening’s reception, I will be spending a good part of the week at the Quest Software booth (# 221) at the Microsoft SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas. Quest will be demoing 2010 versions of most of our SharePoint products, including my product Notes Migrator for SharePoint . At the risk of spoiling the surprise, everything you know and love in version 5.2 works on SharePoint 2010: migration to lists, libraries, Word docs, InfoPath and content pages plus all the design migration and automated site provisioning. But that is just the beginning! We have a lot of ideas about how companies migrating off at Notes platform will be able to leverage the new capabilities in SharePoint 2010, and how our tool will help you take full advantage of them. As much as...
  • New case study: Total Petrochemicals Migrates from Notes to SharePoint...

Here is a new case study that features a high profile migration project that used Notes Migrator for SharePoint (my product) and Quest's Web Parts for SharePoint together [ link ]. It is a great example of how using a good data migration tool as well as a rapid application development tool for rebuilding the non-standard user interfaces can reduce the cost of the overall migration project. There is one other thing I really liked in this case study: The customer cited “the ability to replay the migration scenarios as many times as needed to ensure good results” as one of the primary criteria for selecting a migration tool. This is something that we designed the Notes Migrator for SharePoint migration console was designed for from the beginning, but the value of it is not always clear. Our...
  • In search of a better threaded discussion user interface for SharePoint

To put it is delicately as possible, the people who designed the user interface for the discussion list in SharePoint thought a bit differently about discussion threads than people in the Notes world. People who use Notes Migrator for SharePoint to migrate Notes discussion databases (or applications such as team rooms that contain discussion components) to SharePoint discussion lists are sometimes pretty disappointed at how discussions look and operate in SharePoint. You could make a case for it being better or worse, but the cogent point is that it is quite different and that can be a disruptive change. In the worst cases, this change can really detract from an end user's first impression if their new SharePoint environment. Quest Web Parts for SharePoint (a separate product, but highly...
  • Quest Notes Migration Center at Tech Ed booth 728

Last year's "Notes Migration Center" was a smashing success. We did something a little radical and put up a separate booth just for talking to customers and partners about Notes Migrations. This was in addition to the big giant booth that Quest always has. We knew that discussions around Notes migration issues tended to be a little more complex than the usual product feature demos and we felt that they deserved a little more space. The results were so positive, so we are doing it again next week. This year, the Quest Notes Migration Center will be at booth 728, only slightly removed from the main Quest area (booth 809). We will be featuring live demonstrations and discussions of all our Notes migration tools including the brand new new Quest Migrator for Sametime as well as Notes...
  • 7x24 support is now available for my product

A couple weeks ago, Quest introduced a "Critical Support" option for Notes Migrator for SharePoint . We always had great support, three global call centers ensured that customers around the world could get help quickly in their local time zone. Critical Support raises the bar even higher and gives customers the option of paying a slight premium to get that fastest possible response time, highest priority escalation, etc. You can find the details about Quest's support commitments and options at http://quest.com/support . I consider this new option a great testament to the large number of people who are now trained on my humble product as well as the large volume of activity around it. Thanks guys! Read More...

  • New CBTs available for Notes Migrator for SharePoint

Our EMEA support team (one of three global support centers where you can get awesome support on my product) has recently put together a series of Computer Based Training labs on installing and using Notes Migrator for SharePoint . Of course their immediate objective was to better support customers who might be struggling with certain aspects of the product, but (as usual) these guys have over-achieved and what they delivered was an entire training course! The table of contents for the first release is shown below. Each of the links points to a "solution" on the Quest SupportLink web site. A login is required. Any Quest customer should have an account on this site, but if you don't have one, a really good way to get one is to register to download a free trial version of Notes Migrator...
