  • Cool stuff in SharePoint 2010 that Notes customers will love: InfoPath everywhere

One of the biggest barriers to moving large numbers of Notes applications to SharePoint is the cost of rebuilding the complex applications. As covered previously [ link ] this cost is often overstated and can be mitigated by a good understanding of how to leverage out-of-box SharePoint features and code reuse, but it is still a very real issue. SharePoint 2010 contains many advances that will dramatically reduce the cost of application development and (even better) will allow tools such as Notes Migrator for SharePoint to do a lot more of the work for you. We will cover things such as improvements in declarative workflow, dynamic scalable views, ASPX pages and offline capabilities in other posts. But first I want to talk about InfoPath. InfoPath is, of course, Microsoft’s primary solution for...
  • Webcast on our new Notes-to-InfoPath migration capabilities

As discussed previously [ link ], Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2 has drastically improved its InfoPath capabilities. Not only do we make converting Notes documents to InfoPath documents (targeting any data schema) much easier than we did previously, we now will generate the form for you (or at least make a pretty good start at it)! Tomorrow I will be presenting a webcast on these new capabilities. You can view the schedule and register here: http://www.quest.com/events/ListDetails.aspx?ContentID=9929 . If a recording becomes available later, I will update this post. Read More...
  • Final feature list for Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2

RTM on Monday. Very exciting! This release of Notes Migrator for SharePoint includes the following new features: Generate Word 2007 documents Notes Migrator for SharePoint now generates Word 2007 (DOCX) documents from Notes Rich Text documents. Notes documents can be formatted as generic Word documents or documents based on custom Word templates. In addition to mapping Note rich text to the document body, you can map various Notes data items to the properties and content controls of your template. For detailed information on how to use this feature, please see Generating Word 2007 Documents in the User Guide. You can also see a preview of this feature in action on the product manager’s blog here: http://notes2sharepoint.org/archive/2009/04/25/sneak-preview-generating-microsoft-word-documents...
  • Case study in debugging InfoPath data migration jobs

Notes Migrator for SharePoint has the ability migrate Notes documents to InfoPath data documents. As described in previous posts [ link ], this feature currently requires hand-editing an XML template file. It is one of the more complicated parts of the product and, frankly, it is all to easy to generate an XML document that InfoPath does not like. We will be making all this a lot easier in an upcoming patch release, but meanwhile some debugging tips are in order. The best way to resolve almost any problem here is to create a sample InfoPath document directly in your SharePoint document library and compare it line-by-line to an InfoPath document generated by Notes Migrator for SharePoint . To download the XML data documents to your local hard disk, right click on the documents in question in...
  • Converting Notes forms to InfoPath form templates

The Notes Migrator for SharePoint product team is finally getting into the business of migrating Notes application designs. For the first three years of the product's life, we have focused on awesome content migration, schema migration, security migration, application analysis, site/list provisioning, automation and project management. In other words, we have done everything but design migration. Well that's about to change! In Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.2 we will deliver that first of many planned design migration features: converting Notes forms to InfoPath form templates. As discussed previously, our product is already great at migrating Notes data documents to InfoPath XML data documents, but developers still had to design their InfoPath form templates from scratch. Now we...
