December 2009 - Quest SharePoint Experts Mirror

  • Year End Review – SharePoint in 2009

As we move into 2010 with both a new outlook with the excitement of a new product I’d like to look back and some highlights and lowlights. This is my list. Happy to look at yours and let me know and I’ll link back to them – Joel Oleson Highlights 1. SharePoint Conference Explosion - Not only did we have I bet 30 or more FREE SharePoint Saturdays with over 100 in attendance with many at 150+ booked in a short period of time. Kudos to Michael Lotter, Susan Lennon especially, but also Kevin and all of those who organized the various events like the recent SPSKC by @mosslover Becky, with 300 registered and over 200 in attendance, not only in the U.S. but across Europe, Australia, and coming soon to the Middle East! good luck to SharePoint Saturday Jordan, see you there! SPTECHCON has really taken...
  • A Tribute to the Road Warriors - Top 20 Most Travelled SharePoint People in 2009*

Body: As we round out the year, I was looking at some of my travel stats and wondering… I wonder if I’ve clocked up more miles than anyone else. Sure I think I talk about it more than anyone I know, but maybe that’s because I like to share. Not because I like to boast or brag. At least I hope not. I have had some in the past say they like the stories. Some say less on travel, well many of us it’s our passion other's it’s part of the job. I’m a fan of the basic Trip it social media travel service. Here’s my profile if you want to add me. (I do like it better than Dopplr.com which I used in 2008.) Forwarding my plans to plans@tripit.com and getting an awesome summary on my mobile device in an offline app has been HUGE. Can’t say much for the pro service yet, since I haven’t used it, but here...

  • Announcing Discount, Keynote, and Speakers for SharePoint 2010 @ The Experts Conference 2010

Body: Designed to be one of the deepest conferences focused almost exclusively on IT and Architecture is The Experts Conference. TEC is recognized as the premier event to really focus on depth. As well, by design, this SharePoint conference is nearly 100% focused on SharePoint 2010, but as well includes real world case study type information on SharePoint 2007 scale deployments. I’ve personally been tasked with bringing together some of the best experts on SharePoint and I’m pleased to announce much of the lineup of top notch speakers, real industry experts in their field. There are 2 SharePoint tracks across 3 days plus optional pre-conference workshops and I’m driving to push the event even more. Don’t worry about the host, you won’t see any Quest product demos or Quest sales presentations...
  • 10 Tips Troubleshooting Installations for SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint Foundation

Installing beta software always has a few challenges. I’ve come across some good step by step instructions, which if you’re like the typical SharePoint person, you’ll refer to if you get stuck. Here are some decent install references I found: Ji Lie Installation Instructions and Warning (Must Read) (The comments on this one are really good.) CJG: SharePoint 2010 - Step by Step Install (HyperV with Full SQL) Microsoft (MSDN) for Win 7: Setting Up the Development Environment for SharePoint Server (Win 7 high level) Faizal: Step by Step SharePoint 2010 Installation Guide (Standalone on VMware Workstation) CodeProject: Step by Step SharePoint Server 2010 Installation ... (Standalone on VMware Workstation, good links to prerequisites) Rather than repeat with my own step by step. Here are a few snags...
